In the waters of Orange County, California there exist a small population of native Steelhead Trout. Not too many years ago, those Steelhead were abundant, but urban "progress" has taken its toll on these beautiful fish. Can a small group of volunteers help restore the species? These determined folks believe so.

The key to such issue-advocacy web sites is that they need to be flexible, and they need to allow easy and convenient content management by the people involved in the project.

We built this site on Expression Engine, a content management platform which we are truly intrigued with. Then we added database-driven tools for calendar, newsletter, mailing list and photo gallery management.

Dedicated to the restoration and protection of trout and the places they live, California Trout's online image needed a facelift. GreyBeard delivered...

One of the goals of our redesign was to allow navigation from any page within the site to any other page. DHTML navigation solved that requirement.

Another goal was to accomodate the entry of news content to the front page so that site content would remain fresh. GreyBeard's content management system was installed, making it very easy for CalTrout staff to maintain news stories and announcement.

Here is a testing copy of the site, along with the administrative tools to allow you to evaluate the GreyBeard CMS for your own project (please call for password.)

This was a quick little project for a local grassroots media reform group working on issues related to cable television.

Similar to many of our civic- and social-oriented projects, the site is based on our content management system.

Originally created for the VerifiedVoting project, this site features our Donations Management System. Ask us for a demo so we can show you the robust back-end features of this system!

This comprehensive project demonstrates the use of GreyBeard's content management system, which is featured in many of our sites, combined with the implementation of multiple commercial software applications.

Also featured in this site is DCforum+ from DCscripts.com, a weblog from WordPress, an RSS newsfeed (see lower-right column of the front page of the site) which reads content from VotersUnite.org, and a database-driven events calendar.

When US Representative John Conyers Jr. (D-MI) held hearings concerning troubling reports of voter disenfranchisement and failures to uphold the Voting Rights Act in Ohio, a link to our election problems database was requested for use by the US Library of Congress. This was a proud moment indeed.

This site is created and maintained by Ellen Theisen and John Gideon, formerly core members of the www.VerifiedVoting.org team. GreyBeard has assisted with creating and implementing the following database functionality.

As early voting for the November 2004 US General Election completed it's first day, news reports began to reveal a variety of problems with voting machines and election procedures. From our experience in this area, it was clear that a tool was needed to capture such reports.

We quickly implemented a set of tools that allowed election problems to be submitted to the VotersUnite! web site. As those reports arrived, an administrative tool allowed those records to be reviewed and activated so that they would appear publicly.

Ultimately, this collection of reports grew to exceed over 450 unique news articles and eyewitness reports.

News listings in this site are maintained using GreyBeard's content management system, and have been configured to feed an RSS newsfeed, which in turn is read by a number of other web sites including www.usvip.org.
